major safe co. floor safe | |
my grandfather has an old major safe co. floor safe (mdl no: xb8) in his home, he is 100 years old and has gone senile. while he had it open he was trying to put the lid back on and turned the dial so that the bolts were out, he proceeded to try and close the bolts with a hammer and shattered the dial. can these lids be rebuilt?

i am doing a home remodel and found the lid for a major safe. i am not sure of the model, but i can make out an "x at the beginning and an "8" at the end. s/n: 106655. it could easily be your model xb8. i was even able to determine the combination (i was bored). are you still in need of a lid?

getting a floor safe open is not an easy job if it is a good one. probably the easiest thing to do, if they didn't get excessive in the installation, is to shoot bolts into the top of the safe box that sticks up past the lid and winch it out of the floor. then you can chip away the concrete and cut the safe case open. once you can see the back of the lock and remove the plate, you should be able to open it. getting a new box welded up for the door will be cheaper than buying the whole thing new.
